Review by Walter Carrington (Construtive Teaching Centre)
First published in STATNews vol. 4, issue 17, 1997. This will be a useful tool for anyone who has to do a presentation on the Technique for a popular audience. It gives a good general impression as to what the Technique is all about and provides a useful basis for further description and explanation and will stimulate discussion and questions and answers.

No doubt it will also provoke criticism from many quarters and nobody will be completely satisfied. However, almost everybody will find something to admire in it, and since making such a video is a nearly impossible task, Rafaele and Christine are to be congratulated on their efforts.

In these days people are more willing to look at pictures than to read books and so this is probably a better way than most to give them an idea of what the Technique is all about. After all, people need to experience it for themselves before they can understand it, and yet they will be shy about coming forward for individual demonstrations until they know what it entails.

This video is not intended to meet the requirements of a critical scientific audience, it is only intended to give some general impression of the scope and purpose of our work. However, most health professionals will find it useful in forming an idea of its possible value in their own field, based as it is, on an approach largely unfamiliar to them.

Altogether it is to be recommended to all Alexander teachers as a useful promotional tool for their work. It is suitable for public or private viewing and could be lent to enquirers who wished to have some advance information before seeking a personal interview and demonstration. The quality of the sound reproduction on some of the copies leaves a lot to be desired, but the makers are aware of this and doing their best to rectify the problem.

Many years ago I commissioned a film script with similar aims in view with the support of Mr Aldous Huxley and others. Unfortunately, we encountered too many problems and never succeeded in making it, so I am well aware of the practical difficulties that the makers had to face.

It is worth pointing out that when people buy the video, they will be helping the Alexander Trust to recoup the money that the Trust advanced, so I hope that as many people as possible will support the project.
