| Item 33 |
Ashley Place teaching table |

| Description |
Solid and thick wood. Probably stained pine wood. Foldable. Suffered from damp. Metal bits rusty. Some kind of carpet has been lying on the table for some time, and some remnants still stick (see pictures). Needs lots of TLC. Has probably been used as a DIY work table at some point (see saw cuts to edge on picture). |
| Size |
78" long x 26.5" width x 30" height (approximate size). |
| F. M. Alexander's? |
Very likely. Both Beaumont Jr and his son have been told this was the Ashley Place teaching table. They believe the carpet was requested by F. M. Alexander for people to have something soft to lie on. The dimensions fit that of a teaching table, albeit a narrow one. |
| Provenance |
The provenance of the item has been estimated by Jean M. O. Fischer based on consultation with the nephew and grandnephew of F. M. Alexander and other sources. More details on the history of the auction on http://www.mouritz.co.uk/9.85.AlexanderEstateAuc.html. |
| Notes |
Walter Carrington makes reference to the first teaching table as having been made in 1939 by the Crossly (Crossley?) brothers in the interview by Hidemi Hatada (Conscious Control vol. 1 no. 1, 2007, p. 80). Due to the size this item is for collection only. |

| Item 34 |
Ashley Place typewriter - Underwood |

| Description |
A 1920s or 1930s typewriter produced by Underwood.
Keys appear to work (some less smooth than others), but the typewriter has suffered from rust - see pictures.
| Size |
15" x 15" x 9" |
| F. M. Alexander's? |
Certain. Walter Carrington positively identified this item from a photograph I showed him in 2004. He said he had spent many hours with this typewriter. It was used not only for Ashley Place correspondence but for transcribing F. M. Alexander's drafts for the MS for The Universal Constant in Living. |
